Proof Of Concept
I have acquired all the hardware and laying out to see how they will fit before mounting to my frame for deving.
The goal was to validate form factor, wiring, and display placement before committing to a full build. This phase followed the earlier research and technology exploration in April 2024. The hardware stack (single-board computers, screens, input devices) had to fit the same physical footprint we used for the 2017 prototype, so that existing learnings from the cockpit build could carry over. Once the layout was locked, the next step was integration testing and then the pivot toward the current game: Hoshi no Isan in Unreal Engine 5. The Dev Journal covers that direction; the legacy archive keeps posts like this for reference.
This post is part of the Spaceship Adventures legacy archive. The project later became Hoshi no Isan — a Japanese-aesthetic space visual novel and crew RPG in Unreal Engine 5. For current development, see the Development Journal and the Yamabiko and crew pages.
Older entries document physical builds, proof-of-concept hardware, and pre–UE5 ideas. The full legacy list is chronological; the Game Design Document describes the current Hoshi no Isan vision.
Spaceship Adventures has been iterating since 2010: education-focused concepts, physical cockpit prototypes, and software experiments. Today the focus is a single-player narrative experience aboard the Yamabiko; the Dev Journal covers the latest.
